"My Infant But Cares for Me" is a jazz standard written by Walter Donaldson with lyrics by Gus Kahn. Written for the flick version of the musical one-act Whoopee! (1930), the song became a signature tune for Eddie Cantor who sang it in the flick.[ane] [ii] A stylized version of the vocal by Nina Simone,[2] recorded in 1957, was a peak 10 hit in the United kingdom after it was used in a 1987 perfume commercial and resulted in a renaissance for Simone.[iii]

Simone recorded the song in late 1957 for her debut album, Little Girl Blue, released in February 1959. The track remained relatively obscure until 1987, when information technology was used in a UK television commercial for Chanel No. 5 perfume. To follow upwards this exposure, the track was released as a single by Charly Records,[7] entering the United kingdom Singles Nautical chart on October 31, 1987 (1987-x-31) and becoming, after a peak at number 5,[eight] 1 of Simone's biggest hits some 18 years later on her previous chart entry. This single also made the meridian 10 in several European single charts and peaked at number ane in the Dutch Peak 40.[9] At this time there was also a twelve inch single released, Special Extended Smoochtime Version, with a 5.23 running time.
The Simone version of the song was featured on the soundtrack for the 1992 picture Peter's Friends, the 1994 motion picture Shallow Grave,[ten] and the 1996 film Stealing Dazzler.
Music video [edit]
In 1987 a claymation music video was produced by Aardman Animations[11] and directed by Peter Lord. The video prominently features alive action footage showing details of a pianoforte, brushes on a snare pulsate, and a double bass as they play the song. The two focal characters are represented by a singing cat in a society and the cat who is in honey with her.
